Even as the United States government continues to censor its own citizens, the Biden regime’s Treasury Department recently imposed sanctions on an Iranian tech firm for helping the leaders of Iran to censor its citizens.
Aravan Cloud and its co-founders Pouya Pirhosseinloo and Farhad Fatemi, as well as the company’s United Arab Emirates-based affiliate, have all been sanctioned “for their roles in facilitating the Iranian regime’s censorship of the Internet in Iran,” announced the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.
“The United States is committed to holding accountable those who seek to undermine freedom of expression and suppress dissent, and to call out regimes who deny their citizens this right,” added Treasury Under Secretary Brian Nelson.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken also chimed in with praise for the sanctions, stating that he believes they are a valid part of the Biden regime’s “multi-pronged strategy to support and preserve the free flow of information to the Iranian people in the face of the Iranian regime’s unprecedented campaign of Internet disruptions and censorship.”

All of this rhetoric is simply mind-boggling in light of the many revelations that have burst forth as of late to show that the Biden regime is not only staying quiet about domestic censorship activities, but is actually contributing to and even driving that censorship here on U.S. soil.
“These sanctions send a message to international partners that the U.S. government will nakedly exploit legacy free speech principles by which it itself no longer abides,” criticized Mike Benz, a former State Department official and executive director of the Foundation for Freedom Online.
“Our government is leading the crusade to censor the internet, while sanctioning other countries for censoring their own internet. This is an ‘open society for thee, closed society for me.'”
Benz went on to say in a statement to Just the News that there is “an incredible myopia right now in the Biden foreign policy establishment” as the regime continues to use antiquated free speech talking points from 2016 “as if the last seven years of U.S. domestic speech crackdown went unnoticed by the international community.”
“It hasn’t,” he continued.
The Biden regime’s Censorship Industrial Complex is so vast that Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry and Missouri Sen. Eric Schmitt, both Republicans, testified to the House Weaponization of the Federal Government Subcommittee in March about a lawsuit they filed last year together against it.
“The Biden administration has led the largest speech censorship operation in recent American history,” Schmitt testified, adding that “since taking office, President Biden and his team have labored to suppress viewpoints with which they disagree. And in so doing, they have infringed upon the individual freedoms of millions of Americans.”
Landry added in his testimony that he and Schmitt gathered “overwhelming evidence” that paints a clear picture “of collusion and conspiracy between the federal government and social media platforms to censor speech.”
House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) is also working to stop the government from colluding with Big Tech to censor Americans with legislation that would ban such practices from continuing.
Back in March, the GOP-led House passed the bill, called the Protecting Speech from Government Interference Act, which would “include a prohibition on federal employees using their official authority to influence or coerce a private sector internet platform to censor lawful speech.”
