A British virologist who is known for attempting to steer researchers away from ‘theories’ that the COVID-19 virus originated in a lab in China is backing a ‘woke’ scientist who complained that pointing a finger at Beijing is responsible for the World Health Organization’s (WHO) now-aborted pseudo-investigation into those claims.
As reported by the UK’s Daily Mail, on Tuesday, Dr. Peter Daszak, a British scientist based in the U.S. who funded the Wuhan lab in question, retweeted a post from virologist Dr. Angela Rasmussen hours after the WHO quietly ended its investigation into the origin of the pandemic. Rasmussen, who works at the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization in Canada, shared an article reporting the news and wrote a caption that implied that the canceled probe was a consequence of America’s approach towards the secretive communist regime.
“By demonizing and alienating colleagues in China instead of building collaborative trust, this is what the relentlessly toxic lab leak conspiracy machine has yielded: The complete and total disintegration of any meaningful further investigation into the origins of SARS-CoV-2,” Rasmussen said.

Daszak, who is a close associate and friend of recently-retired Dr Anthony Fauci and who has received funding from Fauci’s National Institutes of Health in the past, took note and retweeted her.
Despite his close ties to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, Daszak has regularly attempted to persuade other leading scientists to support the theory that the virus originated in a ‘wet market.’ House Republicans have been pressuring both the virologist and Fauci for years to produce documents and testimony that exonerate the lab from involvement in the virus’s origin. Officials have cited a lack of access to researchers in the East as the reason for the cancellation of the WHO investigation.
The Wuhan lab leak theory suggests the COVID-19 pandemic originated from a laboratory accident at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China. This theory has gained traction in recent months, with some politicians, scientists, and media outlets arguing that it is a possible explanation for the pandemic’s origin.
The Wuhan Institute of Virology is a research center specializing in studying coronaviruses, including the bat virus, which is closely related to the virus that causes COVID-19. The lab is located in Wuhan, the city where the first cases of COVID-19 were reported in December 2019. The lab has been the subject of much speculation about the pandemic’s origins, with some suggesting that the virus may have accidentally leaked from the lab. Others have speculated that China deliberately leaked the virus, perhaps as a means of pushing back on the then-Trump administration and the rest of the world as they sought better trading conditions.
Proponents of the lab leak theory point to several pieces of evidence that they say support their hypothesis. They note that the lab was conducting research on bat viruses, which are similar to the virus that causes COVID-19. They also point to reports of safety issues at the lab, including a cable from the U.S. embassy in Beijing that warned about inadequate safety measures at the lab. In addition, they argue that the Chinese government has been secretive and uncooperative in its handling of the pandemic, which they say is consistent with a cover-up of a laboratory accident.
Opponents of the lab leak theory argue that there is no direct evidence to support it and that it is based on speculation and conspiracy theories — despite the fact that there have been published reports documenting Daszak’s funding and his association to Fauci’s grants.
They note that the majority of scientists believe that the virus was transmitted to humans through animal-to-human transmission, likely from bats to humans via an intermediate animal host, such as a pangolin. They also point out that the Wuhan Institute of Virology is not the only lab that studies coronaviruses and that many other labs around the world could have also been the source of the pandemic.
In recent months, the lab leak theory has gained renewed attention, with several high-profile politicians and media outlets calling for an investigation into its plausibility. In May 2021, President Joe Biden ordered a review of the origins of COVID-19, including the possibility of a laboratory accident.
Many believe that Fauci should be in jail right now for his alleged role in the pandemic, along with Daszak and anyone else who helped create it and then cover it up.
