Move over, Russia. It seems you may have some competition when it comes to the issue of meddling in U.S. elections from one of our own political parties, no less.
Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp, who is also the Republican candidate for governor, announced Sunday that his office is investigating the state Democratic Party for allegedly attempting to hack into the state’s voter registration system.
In addition, his office said, investigators are trying to determine if any additional cyber crimes were committed, The Daily Signal reports.
“While we cannot comment on the specifics of an ongoing investigation, I can confirm that the Democratic Party of Georgia is under investigation for possible cyber-crimes,” press secretary Candice Broce said in the release.
Broce said the secretary of state’s office has informed the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security.
The alleged tampering came just a few days before Tuesday’s midterm elections.
During an appearance on CNN (of course) on Sunday, Kemp’s opponent, Democrat Stacy Abrams, said she was not aware of any election system tampering while accusing Kemp – who is leading her by about 2 points, 49 percent to 47 percent – of pulling a political stunt.
“I’ve heard nothing about it, and my reaction would be that this is a desperate attempt on the part of my opponent to distract people from the fact that two different federal judges found him derelict in his duties and have forced him to accept absentee ballots to be counted and those who are being held captive by the exact match system to be allowed to vote,” she said.
She’s talking about the state’s “exact match” law, which is a voter ID measure aimed at ensuring only people who can legally cast ballots are able to do so. Democrats have managed to successfully challenge that law.
The law flagged about 50,000 Georgia voters, which of course prompted Left-wing “civil rights” groups to sue the state because those voters were summarily required to prove who they were.
The suit was resolved Friday when a federal judge ruled that about 3,100 people had to prove their citizenship out of the roughly 50,000 who were flagged as possible non-citizens.
While we await the findings of Kemp’s investigation along with the FBI and DHS probes, it’s worth pointing out that whenever there is a whiff or absolute proof of voter fraud, the Democrat Party is right smack in the middle of it. As NewsTarget reported late last month, authorities in Texas busted up a Democrat-aligned voter fraud ring in which elderly residents in North Fort Worth were targeted during the 2016 election cycle.
According to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, “his prosecutors were dealing with an organized ring, but officials did not say whether the investigation was ongoing and whether additional arrests were expected,” the news site reported.
CBS DFW reported that:
Paxton’s office said the women harvested votes, by filling out applications for mail-in ballots, with forged signatures. Then they would either “assist” the voter with filling out the ballot, or fill it out themselves, and use deception to get the voter to sign the envelope the ballot would be sent back in.
When Democrats are not stealing votes or trying to, they and Left-wing-aligned groups are busy challenging voter ID laws, as they have done in Georgia.
It was never supposed to be this way. Under the Constitution and our system of federalism, states are supposed to have the authority to make their own election laws. But Democrats have used federal courts to challenge state voter ID laws and always under the guise that such laws are “discriminatory” because they “target minorities.”
The fact is such laws ‘target’ voter fraud, which Democrats, as a party, own.
